Three people, including a robber, were killed on Monday night in a botched robbery at Bulla Pesa Estate in Isiolo Town.

A gang of about five men armed with crude weapons first raided the house of Mr David Kangethe, an electrician, and hit him with a blunt object on the chest as he tried to repulse them during the 1.30am incident.

Mr Kangethe died while under treatment at Isiolo General Hospital.

One of his neighbours, 48-year-old Abdisala Ibrahim, a clerk at the Isiolo Law Courts, also met the same fate after he went to rescue Mr Kangethe, who had raised an alarm.

He was stabbed to death by the gang, which was trying to escape from the scene.

A woman was also seriously injured as the criminals escaped.

However, members of the public who responded to the commotion caught up with one of the robbers and lynched him.

MANHUNT FOR THE GANG

Isiolo County Criminal Investigations Officer David Cheruiyot said police had launched a manhunt for the rest of the gang.

He added that police had also launched investigations into the incident.

The latest attack, Mr Cheruyoit said, should be a wake-up call for security personnel in the area.

He asked police to use quick and more efficient tactics to curb insecurity in the town.

Isiolo County Police Commander Nelson Okioga noted that criminals in the area had now resorted to using crude weapons to attack their victims.

He, however, assured the public that police officers would intensify patrols to boost their security and that of their property.

Mr Okioga said many criminals operating in Isiolo were from neighbouring counties. He, however, said his officers were on high alert and were tracking them.

He further asked the public to volunteer information that would help police to arrest the perpetrators of the crimes.

“The public should also desist from taking the law into their own hands by lynching suspected criminals,” he said.
