Police recover animals stolen from Isiolo

Security officers in Isiolo County have recovered animals stolen by bandits last week, county commissioner has said.

Bandits armed with AK 47 rifles had stolen the more than 70 animals from Somali and Borana communities and drove them to Kachuru in Meru County.

Garba Tulla Deputy County Commissioner Kipchumba Rutto said security personnel recovered the 74 head of cattle.

The DCC lauded officers who were involved in the three-day track down.

He advised locals to always notify police when such cases happen for quick response.

Mr Rutto urged herders from Somali, Borana and Meru communities to stop cattle rustling, a problem the government is trying to end.

"We will deal with you accordingly. We have reports that some herders have formed groups to steal animals to enrich themselves," he said.

The administrator further warned politicians and tycoons who are perpetuating the crime that they will be arrested and prosecuted.
