JAP clinches Oloolua Ward seat in Kajiado in by-election

JAP candidate Martin Antony Njogu Kimemia is the new MCA for Oloolua Ward in Kajiado North Constituency, Kajiado County.

Mr Kimemia garnered 2,870 votes while ODM’s Abdirahman Awadh came second with 1,269 votes.

Mr Awadh who was second in JAP primaries decamped to ODM where he was awarded a nomination ticket under unclear circumstances.

Kajiado North has a history of firsts.

The constituency became the first ever to produce a TNA Member of Parliament in the by-election held after former Internal Security Minister George Saitoti died in a plane crash.

It has now produced the first ever member of JAP in the county assembly.

TNA MPs have been camping in Oloolua to campaign for the JAP candidate.

MPs Racheal Shebesh (Nairobi), Jamleck Kamau (Kigumo), Joseph Manje (Kajiado North), Kigo Njenga (Gatundu North) and other top JAP politicians led the campaigns.

MCA DIED IN ROAD ACCIDENT

The seat fell vacant following the death of George Ndungu Nyoike of TNA in a road accident.

Other candidates in the race were Joshua Orinah Obegih (Independent candidate) who got 299 votes, Paul Khayanje Opiayo, 56 votes, Peter Wambua Nyamai (Maendeleo Democratic Party) with 25 votes Stephen Oloishorua ole Lemaiyan who got 17 votes.

The ward has 13,403 registered voters, with four polling centres and 19 polling stations.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission’s returning officer Nancy Iyadi while announcing the result said the was low voter turnout as only 4,536 votes were cast, representing 33.87 per of all registered voters.
