Jubilee Alliance Party Candidate William Gitonga has won the Ngobit Ward by-election after polling 3298 against Party of National Unity candidate Robert Murage's who got 3,016.

Ms Regina Njeri of Chama cha Mwangaza Daima polled 19, Mr Robert Ruheni of Democratic Party 91 and Independent candidate Joseph Gichuki polled 44.

Jubilee Alliance Party and Party of National Unity had been locked in a tight race.

The tallying of votes at Wiyumiririe PCEA hall was witnessed by MPs Moses Kuria (Gatundu South) and Anthony Mutahi (Laikipia East) and former Ndaragwa MP Jeremiah Kioni, among others.

The exercise was hit by low turnout with some polling stations recording less than 50 percent of their voters by 5pm.

Only 52.5 per cent of the 12,317 registered voters turned up for the exercise.

The by-election was occasioned by the death of Ephraim Mwangi who had been elected on a TNA party ticket, which is a member of the Jubilee coalition.
