The hyenas have killed more than 200 animals in Tchundwa village and its environs in the past one year, eliciting outcry from locals early last month and forcing the KWS to take action.

Speaking to the Nation in his office on Friday, Lamu and Tana River counties KWS Commander Charles Omondi said no single hyena attack has been reported in the last one month.

He said KWS officers had to put up special traps in the affected areas which helped to scare away the wild animals.

He said there are plans to increase the number of KWS officers in the area so that they can conduct a search for the hyenas in their hideouts.

“Our intention is to catch them and take them back to Dodori National Reserve,” said Mr Omondi.
