Kabogo tells off Waititu over impeachment plot

Governor William Kabogo has scoffed at Mr Ferdinand Waititu’s threat to initiate his impeachment if he does not move the county’s head office to Kiambu and reduce taxes.

Speaking during a prize giving ceremony at Githunguri Township Primary School on Saturday, Mr Kabogo described the former Embakasi MP who is seeking the Kabete parliamentary seat as “a nobody”.

The governor said he was not shaken by Mr Waititu’s entry in the county’s politics, saying Mr Waititu had sought his blessings to vie for the Kabete seat.

“To me, he is a nobody and you know I don’t discuss other people, but this particular one, go and ask him,” Mr Kabogo told journalists when asked whether Mr Waititu had caused shivers in his political camp or not.

Last week, Mr Waititu and five MPs from Kiambu told the governor to relocate county offices and lower levies by July.

If he fails to do so, Mr Waititu threatened to lead the collection of signatures to have the governor impeached. That was the only option left to deal with Mr Kabogo’s “arrogance”, he said.

However, Mr Kabogo said Mr Waititu was unfit to serve as a governor — the former MP is said to be eyeing the seat in 2017 — saying his academic qualifications were questionable.

He dismissed claims that Mr Waititu had attended Punjab University in India. “If you ask me which secondary (school) and university I went to, I will tell you, even who my mates and teachers were, but some people can’t.

“If you want to know the character of an individual, you Google and you will find everything,” Mr Kabogo said.

Mr Waititu’s nomination to contest the Kabete seat, he said, was an embarrassment and had created a perception that Kiambu was a dumping site for political rejects from other counties.

The governor said his integrity was not questionable as there was no court case touching on his integrity.

DRUG TRAFFICKING

“I have never been accused of corruption of grabbing land. The only thing I have been accused of is drug trafficking, a false allegation which only comes up during elections and I am ready to challenge it if I am charged.”

The county, he said had made major strides in development, and rubbished the MPs’ demands.

Mr Kabogo said the government relied on levies for development. He argued that it was impossible to run a government without revenue.

“If lowering levies is good governance, the first thing President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy would have done if to lower the Value Added Tax.”
