Officials in Kajiado County’s revenue department will be investigated following a sharp decline in cash collections in the last financial year.

The county government collected Sh336 million this year, Sh164 million less than last year’s Sh500 million.

Governor David Nkedianye on Thursday warned that those found to be responsible for the decline in revenue would be sacked.

PERFORMANCE CONTRACTS

He was speaking during the signing of performance contracts at the Kajiado County Government offices where executives bound themselves to meet targets set by the respective ministries.

“Corruption is evident in revenue collection. We have evidence that some officers pocket revenue and these will be brought to book,” he said.

Dr Nkedianye wanted to know how the former county council could have collected more revenue than the county government.

“The former Olkejuado County Council used to collect more money than we are doing. There must be a loophole somewhere,” he said.

The governor said tight security had been introduced in each ministry.

“We have come up with a whistle-blowing policy that will be used in the monitoring and reporting of corruption,” he said.

He said some officials have been arrested over corruption while others were being investigated.

Dr Nkedianye said coordination of the administration at the grassroots level would see the efficient enforcement of policies and by-laws in the county.
