Kenya wins top tourism awards despite the slump in key sector

Kenyan lodges and parks have scooped top awards at a global forum that recognises the best spots across the world.

The Maasai Mara Game Reserve was voted as Africa’s top destination in this year’s World Travel Awards (WTA) announced last weekend.

Kenya Tourism Board was also crowned as the continent’s leading marketing agency, beating among others, the South Africa Tourism Board. Kenya Airways’ flew away with the Business Class award.

“The airline offers travellers fairer fares that enable them to fly in via Jomo Kenyatta and Moi International Airports in Nairobi and Mombasa respectively,” the organisers noted.

Finch Hattons, which is located in a remote corner of Tsavo West National Park, was declared as Africa’s best Safari Lodge. Sarova Shaba Game Lodge together and Sarova Whitesands Beach Resort and Spa were the top eco-lodges.

WTA, which is in its 21st year also named Gamewatchers Safaris and Porini Camps as the best in provision of tented outings in some of most pristine environments on earth.

Leopard Beach Resort and Spa was declared the best spa in Africa with Diani Beach Hotel recognised as the best location to enjoy “the beach experience.”
