16 injured in Thika road crash

Sixteen people were injured when a matatu they were travelling in was involved in a road crash near Thika town Friday morning.

Police said the matatu veered off the road and landed on guard rails after it was hit from behind by a lorry.

The driver of the lorry lost control of the vehicle while going downhill at Witeithie near Thika town on the Embu-Nairobi highway.

The injured were taken to Thika Level 5 Hospital. Seven were treated and discharged while nine were admitted.

The crash caused a major traffic jam on the busy highway.

The crash occured a few days after four people died in separate road crashed in the county.
