Kiambu County to buy more vehicles as Kabogo team unveils Sh12.6bn budget

The Kiambu County government has proposed a budget of Sh12.6 billion for the 2016/2017 financial year, in which the executive has factored more than Sh100 million for purchasing more vehicles.

According to the document that is currently at the public participation stage, Governor William Kabogo's administration had allocated about Sh160 million for six different departments.

This comes only a year after the county assembly in a supplementary budget approved Sh202 million to purchase 42 new cars.

Under the department of Roads, Transport and Public Works, the county has proposed Sh65.8 million for motor vehicles, trucks and trailers, and Sh36 million to buy cars, and garbage collection trucks under the Environment department.

A further Sh20 million has been proposed for motor vehicles under the Agriculture department, while Sh13 million has been proposed under the Education department for the same purpose.

The Finance and Trade departments have each been allocated Sh10 million to buy new motor vehicles, and a further Sh7.5 million proposed under the Lands, Housing and Physical planning department.

The county, which targets to collect Sh3.7 billion in local revenue to supplement the proposed budget, has also factored Sh39 million for rehabilitation of a building that previously hosted the iconic Red Nova hotel in Kiambu Town which was turned to sub-county offices.

The building that has been under renovations since 2015 is set to get Sh19 million for refurbishment under the Administration and Public Service department and a further Sh15 million for the same purpose under the Lands department.

The budget has proposed Sh8.7 billion and Sh3.8 billion for development and recurrent expenditure respectively.

NEW GENERATOR

A total of Sh5 million has been set aside to buy a new power generator.

The county is also planning to spend Sh100 million for the construction of county, sub-county and ward offices.

Of this, Sh40 million will be used to build Kiambu County headquarters and ward offices and Sh60 million on building six sub-county offices.

A total of Sh25 million has been proposed under Lands, Housing and Physical Planning to establish an online application portal while Sh4 million has been proposed for the purchase of communication equipment for the Youth, Sports and Communication Department.

The budget has proposed an allocation of Sh4.2 billion for the Health department, Sh1.36 billion for the Finance department and Sh882 million for the county assembly.

Education will get Sh962 million, roads (Sh1.4 billion), administration (Sh589 million), agriculture (Sh651 million) and the executive (Sh374 million).

Trade and tourism has been allocated Sh542 million while water and environment gets Sh650 million.
