Members of the Kiambu County Assembly unhappy with Governor William Kabogo’s leadership will be able to table an impeachment motion if they get two more signatures.

The ouster bid is spearheaded by Limuru Central MCA Njenga Murugami and his Ngewa counterpart Karũngo wa Thang'wa, who have accused the governor of abuse of office.

The MCAs have so far collected 27 signatures out of the 29 required to table the motion in the county assembly.

The Kiambu County Assembly has 87 members, out of whom 60 are elected while the rest are nominated, and signatures from a third of them could spell doom for the embattled Kabogo.

Among those who have appended their signatures in support of the motion sponsored by Mr Murugami and seconded by Mr Thagwa are two nominated MCAs.

And Tuesday, the two were optimistic that they would get the required signatures to remove Mr Kabogo from office.

“No amount of intimidation will stop us,” Mr Murugami said during a media briefing in Kiambu Town. Also present was Ndumberi MCA Ngugi Uiru.

The MCAs, among other things, accuse Mr Kabogo of violating the Constitution by refusing to move the county offices from Thika to Kiambu, which is the gazetted headquarters.

SHIFTED OFFICES

After being elected, Mr Kabogo shifted the offices to Thika Town, claiming the defunct Kiambu Municipal Council offices were filthy for him to occupy.

They alleged the governor had failed to carry out his duties with dignity and integrity by failing to respect people.

Kabogo’s woes began with a row over the location of the county offices, followed by an attempt by MCAs to oust Nick Ndichu.

His nine-member Cabinet was then rejected.

Soon after that the MCAs rejected a Sh13 billion budget for the county.

The latest nightmare for Kabogo is the rejection of the controversial county Finance Bill.

The MCAs are also unhappy about some remarks Mr Kabogo made in public that were seen as disrespectful to single women.

The MCAs have also accused Mr Kabogo of conducting himself in an arrogant and irresponsible manner by making derogatory utterances and using abusive language about other leaders in the country, causing ridicule to the said leaders.

Here is Kabogo’s ‘charge sheet’:

  • Refusal to return county offices to gazetted headquarters in Kiambu.
  • Arrogance and making derogatory and discriminatory utterances against women.
  • Ignoring summons by Senate to answer audit queries.
  • Refusal to follow due process when renovating county headquarters in Kiambu Town.
