Water and Irrigation Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa continues to receive support to contest for the Nairobi governorship.

Two central Kenya leaders on Wednesday endorsed him, saying Mr Wamalwa is up to the task.

Speaking on Wednesday, Athi Water Services Board chairman Wachira Keen and Gatanga MP Humphrey Njuguna Kimani said the minister is best suited to unite the city's multi-ethnic residents.

They were speaking during the commissioning of CDF-funded projects in Gatanga constituency on Wednesday.

"Contrary to popular belief, people from the Mt Kenya community are always willing to work with all communities in order to ensure meaningful development in the country and we believe Wamalwa is the best candidate to demonstrate that," said Mr Wachira.

Mr Kimani urged the Water secretary to help end water shortages in Gatanga.

"It pains us to know that we do not benefit from our biggest resource, which is water. The Ndakaini dam supplies water to Nairobi yet my constituents face water shortages,” he said.

Mr Wamalwa said he will announce whether he would vie for an elective post next year.

"It is time for Uhuru (Kenyatta), (William) Ruto and [me] to strengthen our communities," he said.

He announced that President Kenyatta would soon commission a modern Sh5 billion water treatment plant in Kigoro.

Some of the CDF projects that the minister commissioned include two markets at Mukarara and Chomo and a new bus for Gatanga Primary School.
