Police on Monday arrested a woman whom they accused of stabbing her husband to death.

Ms Ann Mbaire from Tin’gan’ga Village in Kiambu County is being held at the Kiambu Police Station.

County Directorate of Criminal Investigations boss Amos Tebeny said she was being investigated for allegedly killing Mr Daniel Githua, 30, using a kitchen knife.

The couple had been married for five years.

Relatives told the police that Ms Mbaire was angry with her husband because he had arrived home past midnight while drunk.

Ms Elizabeth Wanjiku, Mr Githua’s mother, said on the day, at 12.30am, she heard a knock at the gate.

When she peeped through the window, she saw Ms Mbaire. But before she stepped out to find out what was gong on, her daughter-in-law had already returned to her house, which is adjacent to hers.

Ms Wanjiku said after 45 minutes a motorbike stopped at the gate and a few minutes later she heard footsteps of someone she believes was her son heading towards his house.

MURDER CHARGE

She said later she heard a commotion at her son’s house and she immediately stepped out.

“I found both of them arguing in the living room. When I asked what had gone wrong, the wife, who was standing with her hands across her chest, said she was bitter because of the hour my son had arrived.

“Githua interjected and said it was his home and that he had the right to arrive at that time without being questioned,” she said.

According to Ms Wanjiku, her angry daughter-in-law said she was exhausted by her husband's behaviour.

Ms Wanjiku said her son yelled at his wife, accusing her of being disrespectful to his mother.

She said it was at that point that Ms Mbaire drew a knife and stabbed him in the left side of the chest.

“I had not realised that she had a knife,” Ms Wanjiku told journalists Monday, adding that her son collapsed after he was stabbed.

Family members and friends took the father of one to Kiambu District Hospital, where he died on arrival.

“Though the couple sometimes had some issues, I never thought she would go to this extent,” Ms Wanjiku said, describing daughter-in-law, as an otherwise warm and happy woman.

Mr Tebeny said Ms Mbaire would be charged with murder once investigations are completed.
