Three in narrow escape as five-storey building under construction sinks in Kiambu

Three occupants of a five-storey building under construction Saturday morning escaped death narrowly when it started sinking.

The 1am incident happened in Lower Kabete, Kiambu County.

Those living near the building in Ndongoro Village were evacuated.

Residents claimed the residential building, which is almost complete, had been condemned but the owner went on with construction.

They added that the house had earlier developed huge cracks which were sealed.

The ground floor of the building has already sunk.

The residents said they heard a loud bang and later saw a huge cloud of dust as those living nearby screamed for help.

"Police from the nearby King'eero Police Post arrived and ordered those living near the building to evacuate immediately," said one of the residents.

"Three caretakers jumped out of the building and run for their lives," added another resident Mr Karanja Karira.

Residents now want action to be taken against the contractor.

Curious residents milled around the building early Saturday.
