A 29-year-old woman put her life on the line to save her uncle — and paid the ultimate price.

Ms Rehema Kanini from Gikui Village, Murang’a County, died on August 7 after donating a kidney to her uncle at Apollo Hospital in New Delhi, India.

She suffered cardiac arrest caused by a blood clot which was accelerated by the operation, according to a doctors’ report.

Her uncle is recuperating at the hospital after a successful kidney transplant.

Ms Kanini was buried Tuesday in Murang’a.

As her family members laid her to rest, they began a campaign to encourage people to regularly go for medical check-ups to diagnose little-known conditions such as blood clot.

Inspired by the woman’s selflessness and kindness, the family intends to start a foundation to help others avoid succumbing to little-known health problems.

Blood clot symptoms are usually wrongly diagnosed or treated as ordinary attacks.
