Fierce guard dogs devoured a one-year-old baby early on Thursday at a poultry farm in Junju.

The girl was one of a set of twins whose parents work at the farm in Shariani village where the family also lives.

It is suspected that the baby had crawled out of her parents’ house after her father who had left for work when the dogs attacked her.

RAISED THE ALARM

The mother, Mrs Zainab Hassan, woke up only to find the child missing. She raised the alarm as she ran out of the house where she was greeted with the grisly sight of the pack of dogs mauling her child.

“I was asleep and not even my husband’s movements as he prepared for work woke me up.

“When I eventually woke up, I found one of my babies missing. I started searching for her outside the house and that is when I came across the dogs eating her body,” she told the Nation at the farm.

Her anguished screams alerted her husband and other workers who chased the dogs away from her daughter’s remains.

Junju location chief David Kahindi, who visited the scene, said the baby must have been crawling after her father when the dogs, which are usually set free at night to guard the property, attacked her.

Kilifi police boss Justine Nyaga said he had assigned officers to investigate the matter.
