Lawmaker charged afresh with loss of CDF’s Sh5m

Ganze MP Peter Shehe has been charged afresh with 11 counts of corruption and forgery.

He was charged on Wednesday alongside five former members of the Ganze Constituency Development Fund with conspiracy to embezzle Sh5,229,822 million.

The six denied the charges before Malindi Chief Magistrate Charles Mbogo.

The offences are said to have been committed between May 30, 2014, and June 6, 2014.

The magistrate issued a warrant of arrest against the first accused, Mr Christopher Otieno Nyerere, after he failed to appear in court to take a plea.

Mr Shehe, Mr Nyerere, Mr Emmanuel Sanga, Mr Harrison Eyienda and Mr Geoffrey Mweu were released on Sh500,000 bond each, with one surety of similar amount.

The case had been scheduled for hearing on Wednesday, but Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions Vincent Monda requested substitution of the charge sheet.

FORGING MINUTES

The court heard that the six accused, together with a company, Worldrone Plus Limited, conspired to embezzle over Sh5 million by purporting to construct the Dtizoni Ngamani-Jaribu road.

They were also charged with forging minutes of a CDF committee meeting.

They were accused of purporting that the minutes had been made by the Ganze CDF tender committee for the processing of payment of Sh5,229,822.

They were further charged with conspiracy to embezzle another Sh648,450 by processing payments in favour of Mwepe General Supplies for the supply of materials for the construction of the Mwapula-Mbonga road.

The case will be mentioned on March 30.
