Kilifi North MP Gideon Mung’aro has downplayed the ongoing Coast tour by three ODM governors, saying it has little impact on the Jubilee foray into the region.

Mr Mung’aro said had governors Hassan Joho (Mombasa), Amason Kingi (Kilifi) and John Mruttu of Taita Taveta used the tour to outline their development scorecards, then that could have worried the Jubilee Party.

“Instead of the governors using the tour to tell Coast people about their development records, they persistently used it to launch a scathing attack on President Uhuru Kenyatta and his administration.

“The tour is nothing other than a mere tantrum to seek popularity by the three governors who have seen their re-election getting thinner by the day,” Mr Mung’aro said.

PROJECTS

He said all the projects that are being implemented by the national government are evident in every county in the country.

“Those projects undertaken by the government can be seen. If it is roads, water and electricity, they are all visible.

"Maybe the governors should tell us what they have done with the money they received from the national government,” Mung’aro added.

DEFECTIONS

The three governors have been on a tour of all the counties in the region to counter the recent visit by President Kenyatta and to assure the residents that the National Super Alliance (Nasa) is still vibrant in the region despite the decamping of some opposition governors, senators and other leaders from the region to Jubilee Party.

On Saturday, Jubilee Party supporters in Mpeketoni in Lamu County disrupted a planned ODM rally, forcing deputy party leader Hassan Joho to call it off.

The supporters started shouting Jubilee Party slogans and pelted Mr Joho’s convoy with mangoes when they stopped in the town.

Mr Joho had just started addressing the crowd when the incident occurred.
