Police in Malindi are investigating claims that Kilifi Woman Representative Aisha Jumwa is planning to kill her former supporter following a political disagreement.

The development came after Ezra Biddi, an ODM party supporter, filed a report at the offices of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations in Malindi claiming that Ms Jumwa had threatened to kill him.

On Tuesday afternoon, detectives picked up the vocal Malindi ODM parliamentary aspirant for questioning over allegations that she threatened to kill Mr Biddi.

Malindi DCIO Anthony Sunguti said they summoned Ms Jumwa, who upon interrogation admitted she knew Mr Bidii, who recorded a statement with them on the allegation that the MP wanted to assassinate him.

FALLING-OUT

“Ms Jumwa said she fell out with Mr Bidii, her former campaigner on the basis of his work ethics,” said Mr Sunguti.

The DCIO said Mr Bidii had claimed that Ms Jumwa vowed “to do away with him” before embarking on “serious” campaigns ahead of the August 8 elections.

“He said he fears for his life and recorded a statement with us for investigation,” Mr added.

Speaking to the Nation outside the police station after interrogation, Ms Jumwa, who called off her campaign in Kisumu Ndogo following the police summons, rejected the allegations, calling them malicious.

Police said the complainant should produce compelling evidence that would implicate her with a murder plot.

Ms Jumwa said the allegations were moves intended to finish her political career.

SHIFTING LOYALTY

She further said that with the current charged political season, people are shifting loyalty which is not something new since it is their legal right.

“I have urged the CID to thoroughly investigate Mr Bidii’s claims because no one just wakes up one day and claims his life is danger without tabling credible evidence,” she said.

She further urged Mr Bidii to tell detectives when the assassination was planned to take place and how it was to be carried out.

On the other hand, Mr Bidii told Nation in an interview that he got the murder threats after shifting loyalty to incumbent MP William Mtengo who will be seeking re-election as an independent candidate.

Ms Jumwa is the ODM flag bearer after defeating Mr Mtengo during the April nominations.

Last Saturday, ODM supporters allied to Ms Jumwa clashed at St Andrew’s Primary School during a press conference following calls for repeat nominations after Malindi Town MCA Jared Chokwe challenged the results in court.
