A Jubilee Senator has accused the anti-graft agency of bias in the fight against corruption.

Meru’s Kiraitu Murungi said the anti-corruption crusade has been turned into a ‘dirty’ political war.

Mr Murungi told the Nation in an interview at Alba Hotel in Meru Town the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) is no longer an independent to fight corruption.

“EACC is not properly constituted. It appears to be biased in its selection of victims or people to be charged,” Mr Murungi said.

“The Central Kenya Parliamentary Group feels the war against graft is targeting people close to the President with the intention of removing them from government and weaken the Jubilee administration,” he said.

“EACC is targeting President Uhuru Kenyatta pillars. For instance, removal of Transport Cabinet Secretary Michael Kamau and Defence Permanent Secretary Mutea Iringo has generated negative feelings in Mt in the Kenya region.”

The senator said he was fearful that all leaders close to the President will soon be removed then the Head of State left alone.

Mr Murungi called for the return of Mr Iringo who has been accused of embezzling Sh2.8 billion when he was Interior PS.

“We are not seeing any serious investigations against Iringo. Claims against him was just a strategy to remove him from office,” he added.

He also demanded that the county be given more CS and PS positions.

“We have about two million Merus and the President knows our representation in government is thin. Currently, both the CS and PS from Meru are from Imenti. We feel we should also have another PS from Igembe at very minimum because Igembe is big,” Mr Murungi said.

His statement follows disquiet among Mt Kenya leaders who claim the area has been marginalised in State appointments.
