Kisii County employees planning to vie for various seats in the coming elections have been given one month's notice to resign.

County Secretary Johnstone Ndege has instructed public officers with political ambitions to submit their resignation letters to his office by February 7.

Mr Ndege said the directive is in line with Section 43 (5) of the Elections Laws Act that requires public servants gunning for political seats to leave office six months to the polls.

"Any public officer who intends to contest an election shall resign from a public office six months before the election," Mr Ndege said Tuesday.

Mr Ndege will also be affected by the directive.

He and Nyamira County Speaker Joash Nyamoko want to unseat MP Charles Geni in North Mugirango constituency.

Patrick Chogoo, a special programmes officer in the Kisii governor's office, is also expected to contest for the Kitutu Chache North seat now held by Jimmy Angwenyi.

Two others interested in the seat are Nairobi Advocate Ogamba Migosi and Steve Nyarangi.
