President Uhuru Kenyatta on Tuesday handed over Sh358 million for compensating integrated Internally Displaced Persons in Kisii.

The President is set to handover another Sh472 million to IDPs in Nyamira on Wednesday.

The compensation is for those who were affected by the 2007/2008 post-election violence.

The IDPs benefitting from the funds are the last batches of the people displaced during the post-election chaos.

President Kenyatta handed over the Sh358m cheque at Masimba in Kisii County and urged Kenyans not to engage in acts that will create displacement of people.

CAMPAIGN

"With the money we have handed over we have finally taken care of the last groups of IDPs in Kisii," he said.

He cautioned the public not to be incited by selfish politicians, who want to set them against each other.

"We do not want politics that would create IDPs again. That should be a thing of the history," said the President.

The President was accompanied by Jubilee politicians from Kisii led by the gubernatorial candidate Chris Obure and Senate aspirant Charles Nyachae.

President Kenyatta called on the opposition to abandon the incitement rhetoric that led to the chaos in 2008 and instead campaign on a platform of policies.

"To my opponents, let us not incite Kenyans. Sell your agenda but do not pit Kenyans against each other," he said.

Mr Nyachae said the IDPs were displaced during the time of the coalition government, which also failed to address their plight.

EDUCATION

He said the beneficiaries as well as the residents of the region are grateful for President Kenyatta's decision to address the plight of those who were forgotten.

After Masimba, President Kenyatta, who is on a tour of Kisii and Nyamira counties, made a stop at Keroka where addressed residents.

He said he is seeking the support of voters in the region on the platform of the good work his government has done.

He listed the gains made by the country under the Jubilee Administration including reforms in the education sector.

The President said his government is paying exam fees for all candidates and has plans to make secondary education free in all public schools.

The President also announced that the government will work with the private sector to ensure every graduate from the country's universities and technical institutes get internship.

The President told the people of Kisii to get ready for the standard gauge railway, which will pass through the county on the way to Kisumu.
