Police to restore security at border

The government is set up to open up a police post at Ikorongo in Masaba South sub-county to help beef up security along the porous border dividing Kisii and the Kipsigs communities.

Kisii County Police boss Agnes Mudambah said the station had already been built at Ikorongo shopping centre with assistance from area MP Elijah Moindi.

“We are visiting the post and soon we may send a batch of five Administration Police officers to start up operations,” said Ms Mudambah.

She said calmness was returning at the border after weeks of fighting between youth from the two communities.

Thirteen people sustained arrow injuries during the conflict sparked by a spate of cattle raids between the two sides.

On Saturday, Ms Mudamba told the Nation that the government would prosecute suspects fomenting violence.

“We have put everyone on notice. The government is ready to use all means to end such skirmishes.”

Two suspects were arrested and have since been charged in court for instigating violence.

Mr Moindi called for dialogue in ending the conflict.
