Police in Kisii are holding a woman in connection with the death of her husband in Kenama Village, in Gucha.

The body of the 56-year old man was discovered on the floor of his living room Sunday evening.

Officers were not convinced by the woman’s narration of the events surrounding the man’s death as her account proved inconsistent.

“It is our strong suspicion that she knows more about the death than what she has already indicated in her statement,” said Kisii County Police Boss Agnes Mudambi.

Officers noted bruises on the dead man’s neck and the area around the scene showed signs of a struggle.

“Neighbours did not report any suspicious activity around the homestead indicating entry by an intruder. Only the two of them were in the compound at the time of the incident, which leaves us with no option but to treat her as a prime suspect,” said the police commander.

The suspect had told investigating officers that her husband had returned home drunk and fallen asleep on a chair in his living room.

“She told us that she did not notice anything suspicious and went back to sleep after seeing him asleep on the chair. After he failed to come to bed, she went to check on him and found he had fallen off his chair and was lying unresponsive on the floor,” the police boss said.

The body was moved to Lenmeck Hospital in Ogembo Township awaiting post-mortem examination.
