Devolution Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri has accused Kiambu Governor William Kabogo of antagonising Deputy President William Ruto.

"The governor erred when he asked the Deputy President to produce a power sharing formula with Mount Kenya [in 2022]," Mr Kiunjuri said on Saturday.

He was speaking at Baricho Boys Secondary School in Kirinyaga County during a prize-giving ceremony.

Mr Kiunjuri told Governor Kabogo to stop giving the deputy president conditions so as to marshal support from the region.

He said Mr Kabogo’s remarks could easily annoy the deputy president who worked so hard to ensure the Jubilee government won the 2013 presidential elections.

Mr Kiunjuri assured the deputy president of total support from the region adding that Mr Kabogo should be ignored.

"We leaders from the region are united in supporting the deputy president and we do not want anyone to antagonise him," he said.

He observed that Mr Ruto supported the region to produce the president and voters from the region together with leaders should reciprocate.

"Mr Ruto did well to us and we must rally behind him in his bid for presidency in 2022," he said.

Mr Kabogo had said that voters from the central Kenya would back the deputy president if reveals how he will share power with the region.

He had stirred the hornet's nest early this week when he suggested that voters from the region may not honour a 2013 deal to support Mr Ruto's quest for the presidency after President Kenyatta's two terms expire.

Mr Kabogo said that he supported the deputy president but wanted to know how the region will benefit from a Ruto Presidency.

"As a region we must know what our stakes shall be when Ruto takes over from Uhuru," Mr Kabogo reportedly said.
