Koskei launches drive to help curb food shortage

The Agriculture ministry spent Sh1.1 billion to eradicate hunger.
Cabinet Secretary Felix Koskei said Sh694 million was allocated to 5,441 self-help groups, while 96 public schools and 130 community organisations received Sh225 million and Sh213 million, to fight hunger.
He was speaking during the launch of this year’s hunger eradication project, Njaa Marufuku Kenya, at Lake Kenyatta Agricultural Training Centre in Lamu County.

He said this financial year the ministry will disburse Sh209 million to farmer groups, schools and organizations at the grassroots in the 47 counties.
The cabinet secretary said Sh16. 5 million will be allocated to 21 groups, four schools and two organizations from Lamu East and West constituencies in Lamu County.
Last year, the county received Sh 8.4 million went to 37 farmer groups and two community organisations.
