Celebrations turn tragic in Kwale as one student killed in accident

One student was killed and at least three others seriously injured after a vehicle struck them while they were celebrating a school sports victory.

The students of Waa Boys High School in Kwale were outside their school gate celebrating, having just returned from Voi where their football team had beaten defending champions Tononoka Secondary School to reclaim the regional football title when the accident occurred.

A lorry on the Likoni- Lunga Lunga highway hit a saloon car which then crashed into the crowd, killing one student instantly. The injured were rushed to Likoni Health Centre.

School principal Rogers Mwafungo and his Kaya Tiwi counterpart Robert Aran, who were the first to arrive at the scene, confirmed the 7pm incident.
