Give governor chance to work, leaders tell Mvurya’s rivals

What you need to know:

  • They argued that criticism levelled against Mvurya by some individuals was far-fetched and meant to slow down his work.
  • Some leaders, among them Msambweni MP Suleiman Dori, accused Governor Mvurya of not consulting them in development matters.
  • Mr Simba said those fighting Mr Mvurya had not done anything to the people who elected them.
  • Mr Lukuni urged the anti-Mvurya brigade to let Kwale people judge the governor through his performance record.

A group of MCAs and elders from Kinango have thrown their weight behind Governor Salim Mvurya and asked his rivals “to give him a chance to serve residents.”

The two groups asked politicians to go slow on campaigns and allow the governor to carry out his responsibilities.

They argued that criticism levelled against the county government by some individuals was far-fetched and meant to slow down the work of Governor Mvurya.

The MCAs were addressing a news conference at Leopard Beach Resort in Diani while the elders spoke at a meeting in Bofu Village in Kasemeni.

They spoke a few days after some leaders, among them Msambweni MP Suleiman Dori, accused Governor Mvurya of not consulting them in development matters.

LET MVURYA WORK

“We are aware that politicians are going round the county and know they are Mr Mvurya’s opponents in 2017. Let them give the governor an opportunity to work,” Mr Ali Kombo said at the Bofa meeting.

Mwavumbo Ward Rep Anthony Lukuni dismissed the isolation claims, saying most MCAs were fully behind Mr Mvurya.

“MCAs are the ones who know what the governor has done for the people. He has initiated many projects,” Mr Lukuni said.

He urged the anti-Mvurya brigade to let Kwale people judge the governor through his performance record.

“It is foolish for anyone to say that Mr Mvurya will not be re-elected in 2017 yet there is no guarantee if any of them would retain their seats,” he said.

Tsimba/Golini MCA Swaleh Simba, his Mackinnon Road counterpart Ahmed Musa and Vanga Ward Rep Jerumani Makrah also supported the governor.

Mr Simba said those fighting Mr Mvurya had not done anything to the people who elected them and urged them to respect the decision of the voters.
