UHURU'S SUPPORT
President Uhuru Kenyatta personally visited Laikipia North to campaign against Mr Lempurkel who is also facing charges relating to the invasion of ranches in Laikipia County.
Ms Korere, who joined parliamentary politics in 2013, was among Jubilee Party candidates in Nakuru, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Narok and Samburu counties who put up an impressive performance in this year’s general election with preliminary results giving them in an early lead as tallying got underway Wednesday.

Provisional results indicated that Jubilee was headed to sweeping almost all the elective seats in the region with the party’s candidates leading by a huge margin.

19 MP SEATS

In Nakuru, Nyandarua and Laikipia, Jubilee Party candidates were leading in all the 19 parliamentary seats, some of them edging out the incumbents and bitter rivals.

There was indication that the party could pull a surprise in Nakuru, having managed to maintain a lead in the Nakuru Town West parliamentary seat considered an opposition stronghold.

The incumbent MP Samuel Arama was fighting to stay ahead of his main opponent, ODM’s Andrew Ochoki Mingate in a 7 per cent vote difference at 92 per cent vote coverage.

STEADY LEAD

Jubilee gubernatorial candidates in Nakuru, Nyandarua, Samburu and Narok had taken a steady lead against their opponents as shown by provisional results.

The party also maintained a solid lead in the race for woman representative seats in all the five counties which will see new faces in some of the positions.

In the senatorial race, save for Narok where ODM candidate Ledama ole Kina had taken a lead against Jubilee’s Nkoidilia ole Lankas, the party was leading the races in Nakuru, Samburu, Laikipia and Nyandarua where its candidates were poised to be declared winners.

SUSAN KIHIKA

Nakuru County Assembly Speaker Susan Kihika had polled 638,661 votes leading her opponents at 89.58 per cent vote representation.

ODM’s Samuel Ogada was second at 55, 327 votes in provisional results showing at 95 per cent vote coverage.

In Nyandarua, incumbent Governor Daniel Waithaka Mwangi was staring at an embarrassing defeat with the Jubilee party’s gubernatorial candidate Francis Kimemia leading the race with 220,903 votes which was 79 per cent of the votes cast as at 5.45pm when tallying was being finalised.

Mr Mwangi had managed just 12,855 votes at the time.

SENATE RACE

In the Senate race, the Jubilee candidate, former Planning Minister Mwangi Githiomi, was leading with more than 254,258 votes in provisional results, which was 90.52 per cent of the votes cast.

At Ol Joro Orok, outgoing MP John Waiganjo who was vying as an independent conceded defeat to Jubilee’s Michael Muchira who was poised to be declared the winner.

In Narok, Jubilee was leading in the race for three parliamentary seats of Narok South (Korei Lemein), Kilgoris (Gideon Konchella) and Narok East (Lemanken Aramat).

In Samburu, the party was poised to win one of the three parliamentary seats with Mr Alois Lentoimanga leading in the race for the Samburu North seat.

KANU

Kanu won the Samburu East and Samburu West parliamentary seats with Nominated Senator Naisula Lesuuda managing 14,561 votes against 13,971 votes polled by the incumbent MP Lati Lelelit.

The Samburu Women representative’s seat was retained by Kanu’s outspoken Maison Leshoomo.

Several polling stations were still tallying their votes by Wednesday evening.

However, a few MCA seats were won by independent candidates.
