I will not vie for any political seat in the 2017 elections, the Cabinet Secretary for Devolution and Planning Mwangi Kiunjuri has said.

The CS name has been fronted as a successor to President Uhuru Kenyatta for the central vote basket and his announcement throws open the succession race.

It also changes Laikipia politics where he was expected to run for the Senate or governor post.

The 47-year-old who served as the Laikipia-East MP since 1997-2013 said he is comfortable serving the country as the CS.

“I have repeated several times that am not vying for any seat. So those who are afraid of me should know am comfortable serving President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto,” he told teachers at Ngenia Secondary School where he had gone to donate 3,000 pair of shoes and textbooks worth Sh300,000 on Saturday.

Mr Kiunjuri said that his work now will be to campaign for the Jubilee government and make sure Mr Uhuru and Mr Ruto are re-elected in office for the second time.

He also promised to campaign for Mr Ruto in 2022 when he will be seeking to be the fourth president of Kenya. He lost the 2013 governor’s race.
