Armoured vehicles sent to Lamu for Operation Linda Boni

At least 40 vehicles for the police in addition to 10 armoured personnel carriers have been sent to Lamu County by the national government to boost security.

The hardware will be used in the Linda Boni security operation, Deputy President William Ruto has said.

Mr Ruto also announced that at least 1,500 military and police officers are in various parts of Lamu County to boost security for residents and their property.

This is to enable the security team get rid of Al-Shabaab and other criminals who have been terrorising the region and using it as a launching pad for their crimes across the country, Mr Ruto said.

He was speaking during a rally at Uhuru Gardens in Mpeketoni Town on Tuesday evening, in the last leg of a week’s tour of the Coast.

“We have the 40 new police vehicles and more than 10 armoured personnel vehicles to strengthen security of this county.

“The aim is to subdue the enemy and ensure the environment is safe for our people and their property.

“Our officers will continue fighting Al-Shabaab and any other criminals until we finish all of them,” he said.

SUPPORT LINDA BONI OPERATION

The Deputy President said the government would continue to support the ongoing Operation Linda Boni to ensure its success and make Lamu safe for residents, tourism and investment.

He praised the security units in Lamu for their resilience in ensuring peace and calm returns to the county and the Coast at large.

“The last time I came here, I was mourning the loss of more than 100 of our brothers who lost their lives in the June and July, 2014 terror attacks,’’ he said in reference to the devastating attacks in Mpeketoni.

“Today, I have come here to celebrate with you since Lamu is safe.

“As government, we are doing all we can in ensuring the security of this region and Kenya,” Mr Ruto added.
