Areas hit by violence performed poorly in last year’s Form Four examinations.

County Director of Education Mwanyoha Ndegwa said despite improvement in 2014 results, the June-July attacks played a big role in the poor performance.

Speaking to the Nation in his office on Wednesday, Mr Mwanyoha said most students in Uziwa in Mpeketoni Division and Moa and Pandaguo in Witu performed poorly.

He said many did not attend class in June and July.

“In spite of the slight improvement this year, we could have obtained better results had the areas not suffered any attacks. Bright students ended up with poor grades because they were psychologically disturbed during the examination period,” Mr Ndegwa said.

He also admitted that indiscipline was rampant in Lamu schools.

The top student in Lamu East came from Kizingitini and had a C.
The county registered 1,077 candidates. Only 128 of them scored c+ and above.

The county had a mean grade of a C- of 5.129 points. Education Executive Khamis Kaviha said strategies were being put in place to ensure the county registers better grades in future.
