Igembe South Member of Parliament Mithika Linturi has called on his constituents to embrace the idea of sharing vital information with the security personnel in the area in order to help curb the increasing rate of crimes in the region.

Mr Linturi said this when he addressed a public rally in Athiru Gaiti market when he presented cheques for various development projects in the constituency funded by Community Development Funds (CDF).

He said that the most the efficient way to end the crimes that were being perpetrated by criminals in the area was through open sharing of information between police officers and the residents in the area.

He added that most of the armed criminals were well known by the residents.

These criminals, he said, later turn against the same residents who shield them and attack them.

He advised them to use all the means possible to make sure that these criminals were exposed to the officers who would in turn take an appropriate action.

REPORT SUSPECTS

“In order to curb these crimes, we need to be responsible enough in ensuring that we report those who we suspect to be engaged in unlawful activities or are in possession of illegal arms since these are the ones they are using to kill people.

In this view we have to implement the Nyumba Kumi initiative since this would work well in such situations,” he said.

This came barely a week after armed robbers killed two young men, among them a class eight pupil, who were riding on a motorcycle with the third person is still nursing bullet wounds in hospital.

They made away with the motorcycle after the incident.

Another incident took place in Kiegoi area in April 2014 where a Form Two boy was also shot down by one of the three passengers he was carrying and the motorcycle stolen.

On his part, Igembe South Sub-County Deputy Commissioner Apollo Okello called on the residents to cooperate with the security personnel and share information whenever they get it.

BODA BODA OPERATORS

He also called on the boda boda riders to exercise caution in their work and at the same time avoid operating at odd hours as this was the prime time for robbers who were targeting the motorcycles.

“I call on the boda boda operators to ensure that they operate at the right time and avoid working at night as this was the best time for the robbers,” he said.

Mr Linturi promised to support the construction of more police posts and patrol bases as a way of increasing security in the region.

He at the same time called on all governors and other leaders to work together without any conflicts for the benefit of the people who elected them.

He denied that he was a stumbling block to development in Meru County as claimed by some leaders and said that he was only putting other leaders on check to ensure that the common mwananchi got what he was supposed to get.

He called for respect amongst the leaders and said that he had no personal differences with any one of them.

“I have no personal differences with any leader in Meru County.

The only issues are ideological differences which are normal in politics and this cannot lack in a democracy,” he said.
