A political lobby wants President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto to ensure that positions of cabinet secretaries, permanent secretaries and other State posts are distributed equally in the country.

Mount Kenya Youth Caucus, through chairman Linford Mutembei, said all regions should be included in the government to boost unity.

“No region should feel short-changed as that would compromise our efforts of unifying the country. For instance, in the previous term, Meru region, despite having more than one million voters, got only two permanent secretaries, while Murang’a county with about 500,000 voters had five permanent secretaries,” he said Wednesday at a press conference on Kiambu Road.

However, he said politicians should give the President and his Deputy a free hand to pick whoever they want as long as it is on merit.

This follows squabbling over State appointments, with a section of central Kenya leaders clashing over retention of Devolution Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri over alleged lacklustre performance.
