The National Council of NGOs has called for the arrest of Kwanza MP Ferdinand Wanyonyi for allegedly being behind the attack on politician and human rights activist Ken Wafula on Saturday.

Council Chairman Wilson Kipsang Kipkazi made the appeal as Mr Wafula was transferred from a nursing home in Kitale to Eldoret for specialised treatment after he was attacked and sustained head injuries.

The activist was attacked a few metres from a Ford Kenya rally addressed by party leader Moses Wetang’ula in Kitale.

“Politics in Kenya is polarised and is likely to degenerate into tribal and racial discrimination if nothing is done,” said Mr Kipkazi in Eldoret Sunday.

Mr Wanyonyi, who is the interim Ford Kenya chairman in Trans Nzoia County, has denied the claims that Mr Wafula was attacked by his supporters, saying the incident should be treated as a criminal and not political act.

“We are certain that Mr Wafula’s attack has nothing to do with the branch politics.

“We were all seated at the meeting and we did not know how he left,” he said.
