Local firms invited to bid for tenders in growth plan

Governor Jack Ranguma has urged local companies to bid for contracts in an ambitious Sh4 billion plan.

The Kisumu Urban Plan, to be implemented over a 30-year period, seeks to improve lighting, roads and social amenities in the lakeside town in partnership with the French government.

Mr Ranguma however, warned that the county government would not accept shoddy work from the local contractors.

The project is in line with a larger Integrated Strategic Urban Development plan that seeks to remodel the town to face the lake.

“I urge local contractors to take advantage of the window we provided for joint bids instead of always complaining of being left out,” he said in a statement on Monday.

“A bidder will have to demonstrate very competitive technical and financial capability,” he said. “On this we cannot compromise, as residents will not forgive us if we allowed contractors to deliver poor quality or incomplete works,” he said.
