Luhya leaders will converge for a meeting at the Kakamega Golf Hotel to chart a joint way forward ahead of the 2017 General Election.

However, the meeting, to be held Monday, will not endorse any presidential candidate for 2017.

More than 20 legislators and several leaders had confirmed their attendance by Sunday afternoon, according to one of Lugari MP Ayub Savula, who is one of the organisers.

Bungoma County Woman Representative Reginald Wanyonyi said the meeting will be used to launch a massive voter registration drive in the four counties that formed the Western province.

They include Kakamega, Busia, Bungoma, Vihiga and Trans-Nzoia County.

Ms Wanyonyi told the Nation that thirty MPs have confirmed their attendance.

VOTER SENSITIZATION DRIVE
The meeting was originally scheduled to be held at Bukhungu stadium where political UDF leader Musalia Mudavadi, Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula, New Ford Kenya boss Eugene Wamalwa, former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo and Ex-Speaker Kenneth Marende are expected to attend.

According to Ms Wanyonyi, over 500 elected, religious and opinion leaders from the four counties will attend the meeting.

“We shall use the meeting to formulate a strategy to ensure that we register six million voters in the region and the diaspora ahead of 2017,” Ms Wanyonyi said.

On Sunday, Mr Savula said a successful voter registration drive will culminate in another “massive voter sensitisation drive.”

“We shall be advising people on who to vote for long before the 2017, elections,” said the Lugari MP.
