Sharp divisions have emerged among ward representatives over the referendum push, a day after they resolved to set up a technical committee to chart a way forward.

Ward representatives allied to Cord have accused the leadership of the County Assemblies Forum of being indecisive on the matter.

Busia County Assembly Majority Leader Josephat Wandera accused the forum leaders of dancing to the tune of Jubilee government’s opposition to the referendum.

“We must have a referendum and should not waste time anymore.

"We thought that the forum will endorse the referendum for Pesa Mashinani, but they brought us in Nairobi to take us round in circles,” said Mr Wandera.

He said they would not relent in their push for more funds to county governments.

“We have seen deliberate attempts to incite MCAs against governors so that they do not support the referendum and that will fail,” he said.

However, County Assemblies Forum chairman Nuh Abdi said they had taken a bipartisan approach to the issues.

Dr Nuh said the MCAs would take a position on the referendum when they get the report from the technical committee, which was constituted on Saturday.
