County representatives have threatened to impeach Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya over what they claim is misuse of public funds and overtaxation.

More than half of the members of the County Assembly allied to Lugari MP Ayub Savula accused the governor of misusing of public funds to “buy” the loyalty and support of some of their colleagues.

“What Kakamega people need is a development agenda and not introduction of punitive finance Bills. Why introduce unnecessary taxes on chicken?” asked Mr Savula, vowing to lead the impeachment crusade.

However, Mr Oparanya, who held a crisis meeting in Eldoret on Wednesday, promised to go ahead with the “bonding sessions” with county reps despite stiff opposition from some Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) whom he termed as enemies of development.

“Those who have decided to snub these sessions will not hinder my quest to forge ahead with the forum,” he said.

He was accompanied by deputy governor Philip Museve, Speaker of the county Maurice Buluma and a member of the county service board Rachael Okumu among others.
