  • The MPs said they had nothing personal against the governors

Governors will be kicked out of office if they fail to cooperate with MPs, three lawmakers have warned.

However, Mr Gachoki Gitari (Kirinyaga Central), Mr Gideon Mwiti (Imenti Central) and Mr Njogu Barua (Gichugu) said they were ready to work with the county bosses.

“If governors fail to cooperate and work with us, we shall prevail upon members of the county assemblies to impeach them,” said Mr Mwiti.

The MPs emphasised that they were ready to work with the county bosses as long as they cooperated.

Speaking on Saturday night at Kutus Town in Kirinyaga County during the opening of the Icon Resort Lodge, they accused governors of starting development projects in their constituencies without consulting them.

“Governors should let us know how they are spending taxpayers’ money in our political strong holds,” said Mr Gitari. “They should uphold transparency and accountability.”

The lawmaker accused the county leaders of being proud and arrogant.

Mr Barua said governors habitually boycotted MPs’ functions convened to discuss development.

They maintained that all leaders should work together for the sake of peace and economic development.

The MPs said they had nothing personal against the governors.

UHURU, RUTO INNOCENT

On the ongoing Kenyan cases at the International Criminal Court in The Hague, they said they were confident that President Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto would be cleared of crime against humanity charges.

The Jubilee coalition government leaders had were innocent but had been framed up, they claimed.

“They committed no crimes during the post-election violence and they will be acquitted by ICC due to lack of evidence,” Mr Gitari said.

On national security, the leaders said police should be allowed to fish out terror suspects.

Many Kenyans had been killed by terrorists and property destroyed, they argued.
