Man hacked to death in quarrel over miraa

A 22-year-old man hacked his brother to death in Mbeere South after they quarrelled over a miraa crop. Mr Joseph Murithi and his brother had argued over the ownership of a miraa field at Makima when his brother, aged 22, attacked him with a panga.

A 22-year-old man hacked his brother to death in Mbeere South after they quarrelled over a miraa crop.

Mr Joseph Murithi and his brother had argued over the ownership of a miraa field at Makima when his brother, aged 22, attacked him with a panga.

Police boss Bernstein Shari said each did not want the other to harvest the crop which had matured.

Both, while armed with pangas, attacked each another.

“The two brothers started fighting over miraa and the younger one killed his elder brother,” said Mr Shari.

Mr Murithi was hacked in the head, shoulder and both legs in the Monday incident. His brother was arrested and will be charged with murder, the police chief said.

Separately, in Kiambere, a man was beaten to death and his body set on fire by a mob that accused him of  being a sorcerer.

Mr Thomas Njoka, 70, was dragged out of his home by a mob and beaten up on Monday afternoon.
