Man kills wife, self in domestic dispute

A 54-year-old man on Sunday stabbed his wife to death before committing suicide at Subuku village in Nyandarua North Sub County.

Assistant Chief Mary Kahiri said after stabbing his wife the man sent his three children to report the incident to her.

“The three children came to my home and told me that their father had sent them to bring the report that he had killed their mother. I called a neighbour to accompany me and after rushing to their home we found the woman’s body lying on a pool of blood, while that of the man was hanging from a roof top,” she said.

Mrs Kahiri told the Nation that the couple moved to the area with their seven children four months ago from Murang’a County, and that the had wife delivered a baby boy three months ago.

The administrator further said that she was aware the deceased had domestic issues which led to their separation a month ago, before they re-united a week ago.

"They had trouble over a dowry price that was paid for their eldest daughter a few months ago, and they quarrelled frequently over the money leading to the separation,” said Mrs Kahiri.

Neighbours said that four of the children witnessed the incident.

According to a neighbour, James Muiruri, the whereabouts of one of the children who was schooling in a local secondary school are not known. She had disappeared more than five days before the incident.

Nyandarua North police boss Timon Odingo said that the wife had several stab wounds.

The OCPD said a probe has been launched.

The bodies were taken to Nyahururu County Referral Mortuary.
