Man seized after wife’s body found

Police in Nyamira County have arrested a man after his wife’s body was found buried in their bedroom.

Shock gripped residents of Iboke village in Nyamira South District after police, led by OCPD Rico Ngare, dug up the body of Ms Faith Omwenga.

The decomposed body of the 21-year-old woman was retrieved from a shallow grave under a bed and taken to Nyamira District Hospital Mortuary.

The woman, according to her mother Margaret Nyaboke, went missing on March 7.

She said family members suspected foul play after Mr Daniel Nyabuto failed to explain his wife’s sudden disappearance.

Mr Ngare said yesterday close family members mounted a search in the house and were led to the grave under the bed by a foul smell.

HELPING WITH INVESTIGATIONS

“We were called in and we retrieved the body, which we took to Nyamira County Referral Hospital as we continue with investigations,” he said.

He said Mr Nyabuto was arrested and was helping with the investigations.

Elsewhere, four suspected robbers who have reportedly been terrorising residents have been arrested.

Borabu OCPD Antony Onyango yesterday said the suspects were arrested following a botched robbery in Omoyo village.

At Karia market in Kirinyaga County, an assistant chief died after he was attacked by a gang. Mr Francis Mati, 54, succumbed to severe head injuries following the attack on Monday night.

Police said he was walking to his home around 10.30pm from his bar when he was attacked.

Police led by County Commander Rono Bunei arrested three suspects, among them a couple, over the attack.

The suspects are being held at Kerugoya Police Station.
