Police detonate roadside explosive in Mandera
Police in Mandera on Friday morning detonated an explosive device planted near the scene of an attack on Governor Ali Roba two days ago.
Police on patrol were tipped off by a member of the public about the device and rushed to the scene in the 6am incident.
They secured the scene and called in bomb experts, who blew up the device after two hours.
The public watched from afar as the bomb experts disposed of the device and loud cheers rent the air afterwards.
Governor Roba escaped unhurt on Wednesday while heading to work after an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded, damaging one of the vehicles in his convoy.
The governor's bodyguard was injured in the attack, which police have attributed to terrorists.
Five suspects have been arrested over the attack.
