The national government has given motorbikes to chiefs in Marsabit County in a bid to boost service delivery.

Marsabit County Commissioner Muga Mutindika presided over the handing over ceremony Wednesday outside his office.

Mr Mutindika noted that the county was vast and some areas could not be accessed by vehicles thus the need for motorbikes.

"The government has given you motorbikes to improve service delivery to the wananchi in this county,'' he told the administrators.

He warned the chiefs against using the motorcycles for their personal gain saying that they were meant to help them fight crime in their locations.

"The motorbikes you have been given today are meant for your work as a chief. Desist from using them as boda bodas. There should be a difference between them (boda boda riders) and you,” said the county commissioner, adding the chiefs should not give out the motorbikes to family members.

The county boss also urged the chiefs to get driving licenses and helmets so as to abide by traffic rules.

During the ceremony, 10 chiefs received new motorbikes.
