Eacc detectives extend probe at Migori County Assembly on graft allegations

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) detectives camping at the Migori County Assembly have now expanded their probe to nearly all the departments of the House.

The sleuths had since Monday been delving into the files to unearth possible financial impropriety at the assembly.

On Wednesday, the team seized more files for scrutiny sending panic among workers at the Assembly.

“They are doing a thorough job and we are supporting them to expose those who have plundered the public coffers,” said Mr Eric Gogo, the assembly’s Deputy Majority Leader.

“People who were spending public money like their own must start preparing for a new life in jail. There will be no sacred cows in the anti –graft war,” stated Mr Gogo.

He told the Commission team to spare no pains in their efforts to unearth ‘graft and rot’ in the Assembly.

“These graft claims have tainted the image of the Assembly and its leadership,” added Mr Gogo.

It is believed that millions of shillings have been lost in the assembly in the past, through corrupt practices.

The Eacc officers are also interrogating top officials of the Assembly on “grey areas that need further clarifications”.

House Majority Leader Mr Jeyi Gucha said the assembly will cooperate with the detectives undertaking the probe.

“Some of us are listed in some Assembly records as having pocketed some money for trips and our signatures forged. The officials who did this must be arrested and prosecuted very early in the day,” added Mr Gucha.

The assembly has been in the news in the past on issues related to graft and mismanagement of funds.
