The price of milk has dropped from Sh40 to Sh35 a litre due to increased production.

But the price will not reduce to less than Sh23 per litre, according to Livestock Principal Secretary Khadijah Kassachoon.

Dr Kassachoon assured the farmers that the government was committed to sourcing for markets for the dairy products  locally, regionally and internationally to stabilise the price.

MODERN METHODS

The PS urged them not to be discouraged by the slight drop in price and instead adopt modern methods to improve production.

Dr Kassachoon, who was speaking on Thursday at Kabusare village, said she was impressed with the manner the county government was committed to promoting the dairy sector through the establishment of milk coolers.

Director of Livestock Julius Kiptarus said the government planned to set up a milk powder strategic reserve of 7,000 tonnes.

He said the programme was aimed at increasing farmers’ income.
