Mini poll intensifies Ford parties rivalry

Political rivalry between Ford-Kenya and New Ford-Kenya intensified ahead of a ward by-election in Trans Nzoia County.

New Ford Kenya is not happy that Ford Kenya has fielded a candidate for the December 29 Matumbei ward mini poll.

Trans Nzoia Woman Representative Janet Nangabo termed Ford Kenya’s action a threat to Luhya unity. She said Ford Kenya’s candidate will limit New Ford Kenya’s chances to re-claim the seat.

Ford Kenya secretary Martin Waliaula accused their rivals of lacking in democracy.

“All political parties have a right to field candidates. What is the fuss all about?” Mr Waliaula said, adding: “How does fielding a candidate amount to scuttling Luhya unity? These are two different political parties and we all have equal rights to take part in the by-election.”

Approach election

He said the Luhya do not have to approach an election with one party. “They should learn from other people where members face off on different party tickets.”
