Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria has predicted a major victory for Jubilee in the 2017 general elections, saying the coalition was already assured of five million votes.

He said their strongholds in Central and Rift Valley regions will deliver the crucial votes, giving them a clear head-start in the forthcoming polls.

“We already have five million votes in the bag. We only require approximately one million votes from other areas of the country to secure a clear victory in the contest,” said the legislator.

He was speaking in Kisii County Wednesday when he presided over a leadership forum organised by the Leadership Factory Institute.

More than 3,000 young people drawn from Kisii and Nyamira counties attended the event.

Mr Kuria, who was accompanied by Nyaribari Chache MP Richard Tong’i, said Cord stood no chance in the elections, pointing out the fact that it was 'disjointed and was yet to agree on their flag-bearer.’

JUBILEE LINE-UP

He said the Jubilee line-up had already been agreed on.

“We do not have a problem with our presidential and deputy president candidates as opposed to our opponents who are yet to agree on the same.

“This effectively means that we are on course for victory in the next elections,” he said.

He warned the two counties of Kisii and Nyamira not to expect a share in the government if they rejected the Jubilee party in the next polls.

Mr Kuria appealed to the Gusii community to join Jubilee en-masse, saying that it was their best shot at being in government in 2017.

“Forming a government is like cooking a meal. If you are not in the kitchen when we are preparing the meal, how then do you expect to eat at the table when the food is served?

“The best time for the community to join [Jubilee] is now, before we hold elections,” he said.

He asked the youth in the area to take a more active role in the political affairs of the county.

“The time to sit back and let only old people run the affairs of the party is long gone.

“Jubilee will allow the youth a bigger say in the conduct of party affairs,” he said.

IEBC PROTESTS

The Gatundu South MP also hailed Cord’s decision to suspend its protests to push for the ouster of IEBC commissioners.

Mr Kuria said the opposition appears to have realised that they were engaging in an exercise in futility before making the decision.

“I commend Raila (Odinga) for suspending the demonstrations. The decision shows that he has realised the futility of fighting a losing battle,” Mr Kuria said.

The MP said Jubilee will not support Cord’s push to send the commissioners home, saying that IEBC was constituted during the tenure of the grand coalition government.

“We as Jubilee do not have a problem with the commission,” said the TNA MP.

“We were not in government by the time it was formed to take over from the Interim Independent Electoral Commission of Kenya (IIEC).

“Whatever problems Mr Odinga has with it (IEBC) can be likened to a man having a domestic dispute with his wife.

“Jubilee has no interest in the dispute between him and a creation of his government,” Mr Kuria said.
