A seven-year-old school boy is nursing leg wounds at a hospital in Kirinyaga after he was allegedly stabbed by his mother.

The attack drew angry reactions from residents who confronted the mother baying for blood.

She however managed to escape during the Wednesday morning incident at Maisha-Kamili slums in Ngurubani town.

According to the witnesses, the boy went to visit a relative on Tuesday evening after school without his mother's knowledge.

He returned home at around 6.30pm to find his mother enraged.

SCREAMED FOR HELP

She is said to have then reached for a kitchen knife and stabbed him on the left leg as he screamed for help.

Neighbors responded to his distress calls and rushed him to a private clinic for first aid and he was later taken to Kimbimbi sub-district hospital.

Chief Mr James Kazina urged relevant authorities to take the boy to a children's home saying: "We can not entrust the life of the boy with his ruthless mother."

Area head of police Mr Paul Odede said they are searching for the mother for interrogation.

"We are tracking down the assailant who has gone underground. Once she has been arrested, she will face the law," he said.

Meanwhile, a suspected criminal has been stoned to death at Mahigaini village in Kirinyaga county.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH

Residents raided his house at dawn on Wednesday and flushed him out.

They accused him of being part of a gang that raids their houses and steals property.

"We have been maimed and robbed of property by the well-organised gang. We have said enough is enough!" one of the residents said.

Police arrived after the incident and took the body to Embu provincial hospital mortuary.

They however warned the residents against taking the law into their hands.

Mr Odede said investigations into the killing have been launched and those found to be involved will be arrested and prosecuted.

"Lynching of suspects is a crime punishable by law and residents should stop eliminating suspected wrongdoers," he said.
